Overview (TMDB): | Robert is a writer who hasn't done much writing lately; instead, he's busy pushing the envelope with his toxic mix of boredom, drugs and a dalliance with a married woman, Elizabeth. In spite of Elizabeth's marital status, Robert falls for her completely, a commitment that just may blow up in his face, along with the rest of his life. |

Lots of smoking all through this one, which seems to be set in an alternate-universe L.A. in which everyone smokes all the time, and wherever they please. Crider has several scenes, with a few drags/inhales and one lovely, very slow French inhale, although most of her exhales are invisible and there's a lot of jerky camera movement and poor framing. She also holds a cig in her teeth once, making an alluring and then a goofy face before she drags and moves off camera. Lassez has only two scenes but they're much better in quality. In the first, she and a guy at a restaurant are demonstrating and comparing smoking skills for the edification of a young Asian woman at the table. Lassez demonstrates hers -- and they're excellent, a very sexy drag/inhale/ exhale sequence -- then during the subsequent discussion she discourses on the necessity of inhaling. The Asian woman then takes the guy's cig and says 'let me try,' but the scene cuts away, unfortunately. In Lassez's second scene she gets a light and then directs an exhale toward the ceiling while topless. Robertson's character is rather prim and seems to dislike smoking -- twice she pulls a cig out of a friend's mouth while he's lighting it and tosses it away -- but later in the film, in a scene with perfect outdoors-at-night backlighting, a guy places a cig between her lips, and she drags, inhales, and exhales, then dangles briefly before the scene cuts away. |
