Not the smoking I was hoping to see from [Slater], although just a little bit of promise. Brennan had 3 scenes that are just there. The drug dealer, Loretta Devine, had one scene close to the beginning with nothing notable either. Well had an IRL performance at about :25 into the movie where Helen had an obscure try, editing and lighting at fault, at smoking a Joint. Helen finally had the only scene worth mentioning at :35 while she was walking down the street returning home when she heard the footsteps of someone following her. As she quickened her pace, the first shot, in profile, was at medium/far range and you could make out a good drag but no discernable exhale. The second shot was from almost straight on at close/medium range where she had a deep hit followed by a windblown exhale and a residual exhale immediately after. Helen had another attempt at toking in her apartment later but it was lackluster at best. Near the end of the movie, Helen was lying on her bed, stomach down, finishing up rolling a joint. In close up, she started to light up but her impending divorce document played to her emotions and the scene ended. If you are a Helen Slater fan, you will like it. |
