Young actresses Press and Blunt smoke in most of the scenes they share, as the director seems to use their mutual smoking as a metaphor for their relationship. He holds the camera on them, often in close-up, rather than break away before the exhale. At one point, Press lights two cigarettes simultaneously and passes one to Blunt. In another scene, Blunt takes Press's cigarette from her and dangles while they dance. The actresses mostly do long, deep inhales. A good movie in general, and an excellent smoking movie. |
