Withers smokes in six scenes, with three lightings. She taps both ends of her cigarette on her hand before accepting a light and performs talk and nostril exhales. Her smoke is all the more striking since the film is in black-and-white. Glynis, as the mermaid, tries a cigarette, but coughs violently after lighting it, deciding that smoking is horrible.

Grandi smokes unfiltered in several scenes, including an extended scene while she's in bed watching a guy undress. Also lights up in the doorway of the church immediately after her wedding! Lots of drags and French inhales, a few nicely visible exhales. But the best shot of the film involves a beautiful extra in a scene at a decadent party, who drags and, in profile, directs a long, perfectly lit combo exhale at a couple making out on the couch next to her.
