Biography (TMDB): | Christina Ricci (born February 12, 1980) is an American actress. She is known for playing unconventional characters with a dark edge. Ricci is the recipient of several accolades, including a National Board of Review Award for Best Supporting Actress and a Satellite Award for Best Actress, as well as Golden Globe, Primetime Emmy, Screen Actors Guild, and Independent Spirit Award nominations. Ricci made her film debut at the age of nine in Mermaids (1990), which was followed by a breakout role as Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family (1991) and its sequel. Subsequent appearances in Casper and Now and Then (both 1995) brought her fame as a "teen icon". At 17, she moved into adult-oriented roles with The Ice Storm (1997), which led to parts in films such as Buffalo '66, Pecker and The Opposite of Sex (all 1998). She garnered acclaim for her performances in Sleepy Hollow (1999) and Monster (2003). Her other credits include Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998), Prozac Nation (2001), Pumpkin (2002), Anything Else (2003), Black Snake Moan (2006), Speed Racer (2008), and The Smurfs 2 (2013). Despite being known predominantly for her work in independent productions, Ricci has appeared in numerous box office hits – to date, her films have grossed in excess of US$1.4 billion. On television, Ricci appeared as Liza Bump in the final season of Ally McBeal (2002), and received acclaim for her guest role on Grey's Anatomy in 2006. She also starred as Maggie Ryan on the ABC series Pan Am (2011–12), and produced and starred in the series The Lizzie Borden Chronicles (2015) and Z: The Beginning of Everything (2017). As well as voicing characters in several animated films, Ricci provided voices for the video games The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon and Speed Racer: The Videogame (both 2008). In 2010, she made her Broadway debut in Time Stands Still. |
Movies
200 Cigarettes
smokingsides
Featherstone has a few scenes, but only one good one, with a couple of deep drags. Garofalo has one scene in a cab, unlit dangling, having trouble with matches, at first, finally borrowing a lighter. Hoffmann gives the best performance of the movie, smoking in most of her scenes (including just after waking up), always dragging very strongly, and only waiting a few seconds between puffs. Kellner has one weak puff. Love holds in many scenes, but only has five or six drags total. In the first, she pauses for a few seconds after a seemingly full exhale, and then talks out additional smoke for another five to ten seconds. Parker has a few ok scenes. Plimpton lights up a couple of times and takes a few other cheek hollowers. |
Miranda
smokingsides
Withers smokes in six scenes, with three lightings. She taps both ends of her cigarette on her hand before accepting a light and performs talk and nostril exhales. Her smoke is all the more striking since the film is in black-and-white. Glynis, as the mermaid, tries a cigarette, but coughs violently after lighting it, deciding that smoking is horrible. |
smokingsides
Grandi smokes unfiltered in several scenes, including an extended scene while she's in bed watching a guy undress. Also lights up in the doorway of the church immediately after her wedding! Lots of drags and French inhales, a few nicely visible exhales. But the best shot of the film involves a beautiful extra in a scene at a decadent party, who drags and, in profile, directs a long, perfectly lit combo exhale at a couple making out on the couch next to her. |
smokingsides
smokes in a dozen scenes. Maybe her best yet! The director must be into smoke fetish. |
Now and Then
smokingsides
Melanie Griffith, a very accomplished smoker, has a textbook-perfect exhale. Demi Moore also smokes a cigarette, but gives disappointing exhales. In another scene, three girls take their first cigarettes from a Vietnam vet. Ricci, Birch and Hoffman all light up. We don't see much more than holding with Ricci and Hoffman, but Thora Birch, playing a 12-year-old girl, is shown dragging and exhaling about three times. I don't know how old Thora is, but she looked comfortable (and nice) smoking. |
Prozac Nation
smokingsides
Christina smokes all-white Morleys (fictious brand made famous in the X-Files) in numerous scenes including an extremely nice light-up, exhale and two more drags in a restaurant. Michelle smokes both cigarettes and pot in a couple of scenes. Jessica also smokes cork-tips throughout including a decent mother-daughter scene with Christina. |
