A few scenes from Marlene, mostly bunched together starting about 1.5 hours in. She plays a cabaret singer (yet again) in postwar Berlin, and smokes onstage as part of her act (snatching a cig from between the lips of a male audience member is a favorite move) and offstage as well. At various times we see her holding, dragging, exhaling both inhaled and uninhaled smoke, dangling as she claps her hands in time to music, and lighting one cigarette from the end of another. A routinely terrific performance from a woman who rarely disappoints. Did not see the first half hour of the film, there might be more. |

Upper class British party animals, circa 1930s. Mortimer smokes unfiltered in countless scenes scattered throughout, although in a lot of them the quick cutting rhythm and moving camera prevent us seeing the complete drag/inhale/exhale sequence. Woolgar also smokes with and without a holder in many scenes, with the same issues. Channing just holds once. Some smoking by other characters as well. |

Grim drama set in 50s Scotland. Mortimer accepts a lit cigarette from a guy on a windy beach and uses the end of it to light up her own unfiltered. About 5 drags with very visible exhales follow. She has another brief bedroom scene that shows very little. Bradley, a tarted-up redheaded party girl, smokes in a couple of late scenes, focusing her challenging, provocative gaze at a guy as she takes a couple of slow, long, cheek-hollowing drags, letting you know just what she has in mind. |
