Movies
Billy Bathgate
smokingsides
Nicole smokes all-white's throughout. Energitic drags, reasonably deep inhales and fine exhales although they're not very well filmed. Moira Kelly also appears in a lighting up scene. Kidman smokes in six scenes. She dangles in front of a mirror, then her robe falls away and she is nude as she takes a drag. She accepts a light in a cab with a heavy drag and inhale, holds at bingo and at the race track. Kelly takes her boyfriend's cigarette and drags in an early scene. |
Birthday Girl
smokingsides
in two different TV promos ...in one she is holding, in the other she is sitting on a bed facing away from camera, with a man lying down (implies just after sex), dragging. The trailer shows a quick flash of her holding as passenger in a car, and another flash holding apparently sitting at a table (I think this is the same scene as in the first of the above TV promos) |
smokingsides
Metcalfe, as a rebellious teenager, lights her cigarette from a church candle during a school trip. Anwar drags and talk-exhales. Ford carries a pack of Silk Cut. Fielding smokes in several scenes. |
Dogville Confessions
smokingsides
She does not smoke in the movie itself, but is seen smoking twice in [this] making of.. on the DVD. First we can see an exhale filmed from behind. Then there is a fantastic scene where she is tempted by co-star Paul Bettany to take a puff of his cigarette. Running over to Bettany to take a puff, she accepts the cigarette with shaking hands in a display of mock desperation. She proceeds to take a long and deep inhale, followed by a full nose/mouth combo exhale. Bettany then asks her if it was good and Kidman replies: 'That was VERY good' with a brief talk exhale of the remaining smoke. Sadly the smoking incident from the Cannes press conference has been edited away, all we get to see is a smouldering cigarette in the ashtray next to her. |
Nine
smokingsides
I've watched it so you don't have to. A film with a cast like this, set in the mid-60s - you'd think it'd be the smoking fetish mothalode, wouldn't you? It isn't. A few smoking scenes, including dangles, with Dench. Kate Hudson lights up, drags and exhales once (1:00), and it's not spectacular. And Kidman! Oh, what a loss. She borrows Day-Lewis's cigarette, takes one drag and produces an invisible exhale (1:17). That's it, and I'm never going to watch this boring film again. |
The Human Stain
smokingsides
Kidman, as sexy as she's ever been, really goes at it in several scenes, maybe 5 or 6. Again and again we're treated to a cheek-collapsing drag, an inhale to her toes, and a long, forceful, thick exhale. We must see about 20 of these drags and 10 of the exhales in all, most with good lighting. She also dangles seductively while awaiting a light in one scene, and has an occasional talking exhale through mouth and nose. Her best smoking performance in any film. And there's a cherry on top: The lovely blonde Jacinda Barrett plays an sweet small-town coed, and since her scenes are in 1940s flashbacks, she smokes as well. One scene in an apartment features holding and one decent exhale, another in a record store listening booth shows a few drags, unfortunately only in blurry background. |
