14-year old Besse has at least one scene in which she smokes with her step-father, who is trying to resist her charms in this well-handled and surprisingly gentle French version of the classic Lolita story. Besse is beautiful and quite natural about everything in the film, including her (first?) attempt at smoking. If memory serves, she smiles as she drags, doesn't really inhale, but exhales nice streams through her nostrils with neither shyness nor posturing, continuing to smile at the object of her premature desire.
