| Overview (TMDB): | On the way to meet with an independent artist in the South, newlywed art dealer Madeleine is convinced by her husband, George, that they should stop to meet his family in North Carolina. Madeleine's affluent lifestyle clashes with the family, but she befriends George's wide-eyed and pregnant sister-in-law, Ashley, who is nearing her due date. Through the family, Madeleine gains greater insight into George's character. |

Davidtz plays a sophisticated yuppie art dealer, a Brit living in Chicago, visiting her husband's working-class family in a small southern town. Early in the film she says she doesn't smoke, but soon after, in an attempt to ingratiate herself with her unfriendly mother-in-law (Weston) she asks to 'bum one of those -- for later' and sticks it behind her ear. We never see her smoking it, but in a later scene when she's stressed out and alone she frantically combs the house for Weston's cigs, finds a pack, and lights one up. In a scene near the end, outdoors at night, she's filmed from the front holding and from behind dragging and noisily blowing out smoke. Not sure if she inhales. Weston smokes a few times but is middle-aged and overweight, not attractive at all. |
