Overview (TMDB): In 1940 Kenya as their country prepares for war, the local aristocratic social set lives a decadent, self-indulgent lifestyle, that leads to murder. The same events were also dramatised in the feature film White Mischief, which was released seven months after the first transmission of The Happy Valley.

Holly was only 17 or 18 at the time of filming, but she smokes as if she's had a least a few years of experience already. At first, it seems the editor is determined to cut away every time she inhales, but finally there are some exhales as the film continues. Playing a young woman with upper-class British reserve, she smokes rather nonchalantly, including around her parents and other adults, most of whom smoke as well. However, underneath the reserve, Holly (and her character) seem to be enjoying smoking at a stage when it's still a bit new and rebellious.
