Joanne accepts a light and her tongue comes forward to lightly brush against her lips. A shot from behind shows Mercedes drooping before being lit. She holds in a second short scene and a cigarette hangs briefly from her mouth in a third as smoke swirls above her head.

Kate Winslet holds once without lighting up and drags with exhale twice in flashback, the same scene shown twice the latter more close up. Patricia Clarkson lights up off camera and has a few holding and dragging/exhale scenes. Kathy Baker has many holding as well as several dragging/exhaling scenes as well.
