| Biography (TMDB): | Makatsch was born in Düsseldorf, Germany, the daughter of former German national ice hockey team goaltender Rainer Makatsch. She spent several months in New Mexico in 1988 in an effort to improve her English, and later studied politics and sociology at the University of Düsseldorf for four semesters, which was followed by an apprenticeship as a dressmaker until 1994. Her television career started in 1993, when she was hired by music channel VIVA, hosting shows such as Interaktiv and Heikes Hausbesuche; two years later, on August 13 1995, she became the host of the German chart show BRAVO TV, aired by RTL II, a position she kept until summer 1996. In 1997 she started hosting her own weekly, late night show titled Heike Makatsch Show. However, due to bad ratings, it was cancelled after only eight episodes. Makatsch first appeared in a movie in 1996, when she starred in Detlev Buck's Männerpension (English: "Jailbirds"); she received the Bavarian Film Award as most talented young actor for her performance. Since then, she has appeared in several German and English language productions. |

Set among a group of all (very feminine appearing) lesbian friends in WW2 Berlin, seemingly all of whom smoke. Schrader smokes the most by far, and has a style reminiscent of Parker Posey's or Helena Bonham Carter's, with lots of smoke released as she removes the cigarette from her mouth but plenty inhaled as well. We see tons of these inhales, but many of her exhales are cut away from or hard to see, but there's at least one very good one. Kohler has only two scenes, the first a dangling scene where she takes several rapid-fire uninhaled puffs, but in her later scene she does inhale and exhale. Just when you think Wokalek's not even a smoker she has a scene near the end where she shows probably the best single exhale of the whole film, long and thick. Others smoke too, but I'm not sure of their names. |

Makatsch smokes with a holder at a party, but you can't see much. She also later smokes while lounging outside in a chair, but again not much to see there. The best scene is at a pool table, where both Tabatabai and Makatsch smoke, with lots of visible smoke wafting around their heads after their inhales. Unfortunately both girls seem to absorb most of their smoke, with only Tabatabai having one visible exhale in this scene |
