| Biography (TMDB): | Johanna Wokalek (born March 3, 1975) is a German stage and film actress. A student of Klaus Maria Brandauer, she received critical recognition and three newcomer awards for her performance in the play Rose Bernd. Wokalek is best known for her award-winning appearances in the German films Hierankl, Barfuss, and The Baader Meinhof Complex. She received the Bambi award for her portrayal of the Red Army Faction member Gudrun Ensslin in 2008. She played the lead role in the film Pope Joan in 2009. Set among a group of all (very feminine appearing) lesbian friends in WW2 Berlin, seemingly all of whom smoke. Schrader smokes the most by far, and has a style reminiscent of Parker Posey's or Helena Bonham Carter's, with lots of smoke released as she removes the cigarette from her mouth but plenty inhaled as well. We see tons of these inhales, but many of her exhales are cut away from or hard to see, but there's at least one very good one. Kohler has only two scenes, the first a dangling scene where she takes several rapid-fire uninhaled puffs, but in her later scene she does inhale and exhale. Just when you think Wokalek's not even a smoker she has a scene near the end where she shows probably the best single exhale of the whole film, long and thick. Others smoke too, but I'm not sure of their names. |

If you have a smoking fetish, this is your movie. (If you have a fetish about 1970s German-speaking terrorist chicks blasting military-grade automatic weapons with brutally bloody results, this is also your movie. Consider yourself warned.) Countless smoking scenes, especially from Gedeck and Wokalek, with Wokalek coming off best in terms of quality and quantity. Almost literally smoking in every scene they%re in. After Gedeck disappears from the movie about two-thirds through, Uhl appears and has several good scenes, including once in bed after sex. All of them start out smoking filtered but switch to unfiltered as they turn into hardcore terrorists. Great smoking movie if you can handle the violence. |
