Biography (TMDB): From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Myrna Loy (August 2, 1905 – December 14, 1993) was an American actress. Trained as a dancer, she devoted herself fully to an acting career following a few minor roles in silent films. Originally typecast in exotic roles, often as a vamp or a woman of Asian descent, her career prospects improved following her portrayal of Nora Charles in The Thin Man (1934). Her successful pairing with William Powell resulted in 14 films together, including five subsequent Thin Man films. Although Loy was never nominated for a competitive Academy Award, in March 1991 she was presented with an Honorary Academy Award with the inscription "In recognition of her extraordinary qualities both on screen and off, with appreciation for a lifetime's worth of indelible performances." During World War II, Loy served as assistant to the director of military and naval welfare for the Red Cross. She was later appointed a member-at-large of the U.S. Commission to UNESCO. Her acting career by no means ended in the 1940s. She continued to actively pursue stage and television appearances in addition to films in subsequent decades.

Movies
Double Wedding
smokingsides
Jessie Ralph and Katherine Alexander each smoke in a scene. Myrna Loy smokes in several scenes that even William Powell's character remarks a few times that she smokes too much.
Lonelyhearts
smokingsides
An older Myrna has one lightup scene in the beginning with a nice deep drag and a faint nose exhale. Holds through the rest of the scene. Holds in two other scenes, including one where she stubs one out while wearing long leather gloves.
Manhattan Melodrama
smokingsides
Has two holding scenes, but never takes a drag in either scene
Men in White
smokingsides
Smokes unfiltered a couple times and is a credit to the 30s!
Penthouse
smokingsides
Lights up twice
So Goes My Love
smokingsides
long scene where she is trying to show off to her husband that she can smoke a cigar
Test Pilot
smokingsides
Lights a cigarette, but removes it from her lips without really dragging.
The Ambassador's Daughter
smokingsides
In this scene, Myrna asked Olivia if she wants to go to the next room and smoke. Olivia agreed and then they walked into the next room. Myrna gave Olivia a cigarette and a man approached Olivia, giving her a light. She exhaled nicely. Myrna lit up her own cigarette, but there wasn't much of an exhale.
The Barbarian
smokingsides
Light-up, about 15 minutes in. Holds briefly about 20 minutes later
The Prizefighter and the Lady
smokingsides
About four minutes in: unidentified actress lights up, one drag. About twelve minutes in: Loy lights up.
The Rains Came
smokingsides
a scene in the palace where she is reunited with George Brent. She takes a couple of puffs of a cigarette. A pretty good scene for her, since it is rare that she smokes in a movie.
Topaze
smokingsides
because of the B/W lighting and the degradation of the film stock which causes an increase in contrast, Loy (who primarily lights up, one or two drags, and then holds for the remainder of an ending scene) is quite well done
