Biography (TMDB): | Virginie Ledoyen was born Virginie Fernandez on 15 November 1976 in Aubervilliers, near Paris. At the age of 2, she was already shooting advertisements for television. At 9, she started going to the École des Enfants du Spectacle, and made her film debut at 10 in Les exploits d'un jeune Don Juan (1986). She was then nominated for the César (the French equivalent of an Oscar) for most promising actress in 1993, 1994 and 1995. Her international breakthrough was in 1999, when she became ambassador for the cosmetics L'Oréal; this led to her casting in The Beach (2000), with Leonardo DiCaprio. |
Movies
A Single Girl
smokingsides
Interesting film that takes place in real time. Ledoyen, whose character has just discovered she's pregnant, has two scenes. The second doesn't show much, but in the first she has a couple of drags/exhales, plus another closeup talking exhale, from her Marlboro Red (the pack is prominently displayed). |
A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries
smokingsides
Hershey holds a lot in the first part of the movie, taking an occasional awkward puff. Her cigarettes appear to be non-tobacco. Ledoyen smokes in one scene. After taking a big drag, she talks it out, but the smoke is tough to see. There is also a scene where a teenager gives her younger sister [Conlon] her cigarette. The younger girl doesn't inhale, but does lean her head back and blows a series of upward smoke rings. I didn't catch the names of these actresses. |
Eau Froide, L'
smokingsides
One or two young women who aren't Ledoyen take some drags in a party scene, but it's shot with such extreme close-ups and edited so quickly that some of the time I wasn't sure whether the person smoking was a guy and not a girl. However, just when I'd given up hope for Virginie, she smoked near the end of the film in a fairly long scene on a beach. This scene was also shot and cut in a slightly less than ideal manner, but you can see enough, and it definitely is Virginie, looking young and beautiful and smoking very well. |
Jeanne and the Perfect Guy
smokingsides
About 20 minutes in she takes a good drag at her parents house but because of filming conditions the exhale is invisible. There is a more interesting scene shortly after in what appears to be a restroom in a nightclub. She takes a couple of drags with the first being a IRL deep inhale evidenced by a good nose/mouth exhale combination which is all enhanced because it is taking place in front of 3 mirrors. Later on she takes 2 further drags but after her lover is admitted into a hospital she forgets that she smokes for the rest of the movie. |
Un baiser s'il vous pla%t
smokingsides
Ledoyen's character is introduced about eight minutes in and is almost immediately shown smoking in a whole series of brief scenes, maybe six in a row, in several different settings (coffee shop, kitchen table, standing at a window, walking in a park). A few, but not all, feature drags and visible exhales. Alas, the pace doesn't continue, after the first few minutes she only has two or three more smoking scenes, again brief. Still, this is well worth seeing. |
