Biography (TMDB):	Piper Laurie (born Rosetta Jacobs; January 22, 1932 - October 14, 2023) was an American actress. She is known for her roles in the films The Hustler (1961), Carrie (1976), and Children of a Lesser God (1986), and received various accolades, including a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award, in addition to nominations for three Academy Awards and a BAFTA Award. She was also known for her performances as Kirsten Arnesen in the original TV production of Days of Wine and Roses, and as Catherine Martell in the television series Twin Peaks.

Very nice lighting up scenes, long exhales. Marlee smokes! Marlee has 3 scenes. First (and best), she pulls out a cig in William Hurt's classroom and asks, though a gesture, if he minds. He starts to say yes, fire laws etc., but she lights up with a full inhale and a great exhale. In the second scene she's in the background and a little hard to see, but she lights up and snap inhales. Her third scene has a light-up, snap-inhale, and exhale, but not as controlled. Piper Laurie lights up and maybe takes a small drag, but no exhales

3 scenes in the heavily re-edited TV version. First, walks around holding a cigarette and a drink in the same hand; no drag. Second, a lightup sitting at a dresser; doesn't inhale and quickly stubs it out. Third, a corktip in an ashtray is obviously meant to be hers, but she doesn't pick it up. The uncut version may be different.

We don't get to see Simmons light up the first time, but we do in two subsequent scenes. Fontaine lights with a match on two occasions, but does not seem to inhale. Laurie accepts a light and smoke hangs on her breath for around ten seconds as she talks; later we see a cheek-hollowing drag. Of the three, she is the most likely IRL.
