Biography (TMDB): Natalie Wood (née Zacharenko; July 20, 1938 – November 29, 1981) was an American actress who began her career in film as a child and successfully transitioned to young adult roles. Wood started acting at age four and was given a co-starring role at age 8 in Miracle on 34th Street (1947). As a teenager, she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Rebel Without a Cause (1955), followed by a role in John Ford's The Searchers (1956). Wood starred in the musical films West Side Story (1961) and Gypsy (1962) and received nominations for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performances in Splendor in the Grass (1961) and Love with the Proper Stranger (1963). Her career continued with films such as Sex and the Single Girl (1964), Inside Daisy Clover (1965), and Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (1969). During the 1970s, Wood began a hiatus from film and had two daughters: one with her second husband Richard Gregson, and one with Robert Wagner, her first husband whom she married again after divorcing Gregson. She acted in only two feature films throughout the decade, but she appeared slightly more often in television productions, including a remake of From Here to Eternity (1979) for which she won a Golden Globe Award. Wood's films represented a "coming of age" for her and for Hollywood films in general. Critics have suggested that her cinematic career represents a portrait of modern American womanhood in transition, as she was one of the few to take both child roles and those of middle-aged characters. Wood died off the coast of Santa Catalina Island on November 29, 1981, at age 43, during a holiday break from the production of her would-be comeback film Brainstorm (1983) with Christopher Walken. The events surrounding her death have been the subject of conflicting witness statements, prompting the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, under the instruction of the coroner's office, to list her cause of death as "drowning and other undetermined factors" in 2012. Movies
All the Fine Young Cannibals
smokingsides
one especially good scene where Natalie is drunk and almost lights the wrong end of her cigarette.
Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice
smokingsides
smokes in numerous scenes
Bombers B-52
smokingsides
Just two brief scenes - but better than nothing
Cash McCall
smokingsides
Three short scenes. In the first she drags on her all-white - she turns her head away but appears to inhale. The second is spoilt by the editor who cuts away as she raises a cigarette to her lips. The third just shows her holding.
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
smokingsides
smokes in numerous scenes
Gypsy
smokingsides
Only caught a few minutes - but Wood was just lighting up, and had a nice inhale/exhale
Inside Daisy Clover
smokingsides
Smokes as a 15-year-old in the very first scene, dangling a dog-end and talking at the same time. Later there is a close-up of a drag on an unfiltered (?) cigarette - not a full-blooded drag, but nevertheless inhaled. In three other scenes, she is about to light up, but doesn't. Interestingly, she holds her cigarette (when it's not dangling) between finger and thumb.
Marjorie Morningstar
smokingsides
She is a beginning smoker
Penelope
smokingsides
The hero is having visions - including one of Natalie with a big cigar in the corner of her mouth. Norma drags and exhales from a cigarette.
Rebel Without a Cause
smokingsides
Opening scene 0:20 - Carrying her schoolbooks, she lights, takes a furtive look around, and exhales. Tosses it away a min later.
Sex and the Single Girl
smokingsides
Not to be recommended for the smoking. She uses a holder and her exhales are barely visible. She looked really beautiful in this movie though.
Splendor in the Grass
smokingsides
Flapper Barbara sports a long holder in a couple of scenes. A lot of background holder shots too
smokingsides
Smokes in 1 scene... smokes a Kool Menthol 100 very nicely. She takes a seperate drag with a very french like exhale, the next drag is a multiple with a nose and talk exhale. Definitley an actress who knows how to smoke a cigarette, but i think there should have been more smoking, too bad!!
The Great Race
smokingsides
Wood does smoke cigars, but they are slender cigars and she even uses a holder in one scene.
This Property is Condemned
smokingsides
[Reid] 0:08 - Outdoors, she takes one drag, then tosses cig away. 1:17 - Quick stubout, no drags. 1:42 - Places cig in ashtray. Smoking was incidental in nature.
