Biography (TMDB): Uma Karuna Thurman (born April 29, 1970) is an American actress, writer, producer and model. She has acted in a variety of films, from romantic comedies and dramas to science fiction and action films. Following her appearances on the December 1985 and May 1986 covers of British Vogue, Thurman's breakthrough role was Dangerous Liaisons (1988) in which she starred. She rose to international prominence with her role as Mia Wallace in Quentin Tarantino's 1994 film Pulp Fiction, for which she was nominated for the Academy Award, the BAFTA Award, and the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress. Often hailed as Tarantino's muse, she reunited with the director to play the main role of The Bride in Kill Bill: Volume 1 and 2 (2003, 2004), which brought her two additional Golden Globe Award nominations. Established as a Hollywood leading lady, her other notable films include Henry & June (1990), The Truth About Cats & Dogs (1996), Batman & Robin (1997), Gattaca (1997), Les Misérables (1998), Paycheck (2003), The Producers (2005), My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006), Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010), Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac (2013) and The House That Jack Built (2018). In 2011, Thurman was a member of the jury for the main competition at the 64th Cannes Film Festival, and in 2017, she was named president of the 70th edition's "Un Certain Regard" jury. Thurman made her Broadway debut in The Parisian Woman (2017–2018). For her performance in the made-for-HBO film Hysterical Blindness (2002), Thurman won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Film, and for her five-episode role in the NBC musical series Smash (2012), she received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. Movies
A Month by The Lake
smokingsides
Just one shot in this one is good, Vanessa Redgrave exhaling after a full drag from a small cigar. Otherwise, Vanessa's cigar and Uma Thurman's cigarette shots are ordinary at best.
Bel Ami
smokingsides
1890's Paris, Uma has several light ups with unfiltered all whites, director cuts away be for exhales, could have been outstanding except for the editing...Uma as always delights
Even Cowgirls Get the Blues
smokingsides
smokes, not particularly attractively, in [this] awful [movie]
Hysterical Blindness
smokingsides
Both actresses smoke in most of their scenes, which is most of the movie. Lewis gives a fine performance, with lots of smoke rings, of course. Thurman has a number of excellent closeups, but her character is so pathetic it's hard to get excited abot them
Kiss Daddy Goodnight
smokingsides
Only one scene in a bar. takes one drag in three different scenes. Two of those are light-ups, including one extreme closeup with a pretty full exhale.
Life Before Her Eyes
smokingsides
Evan as the younger Diana, play a rebellious teen and smokes numerous times with some nice drags and ok exhales, Uma as the older Diana is a troubled woman who smokes only once, decent inhale and exhale, she looks great in this movie and its definitely nice to see Uma smoke anytime.
Motherhood
smokingsides
Stressed-out mom sneaks cigarettes (18:00). She lights up while stuck in traffic (baby son is in the back seat, a passerby frowns his disapproval) (47:00). Climbing stairs, loaded down with grocery bags, cigarette in hand. One exhale as she turns corner, drops cigarette underfoot (1:01:00). Comes out of building, cigarette in mouth, about to light up, bangs into someone. A bit later, an angry exhale and throwaway as she gets into her car. Sadly, nothing from Minnie Driver, whose character is pregnant.
Pulp Fiction
smokingsides
[Thurman] one of the great movies of all time for photos of a woman *holding* a cigarette. If only Uma smoked as many times!
Sweet and Lowdown
smokingsides
Uma has three scenes in which she smokes with a long holder. She has 4 or 5 voluptuous drags, but because of the lighting only a couple of the exhales are really visible. Mol has one scene with a quickly-seen exhale at the end of the film
The Golden Bowl
smokingsides
A costume drama, set about 1910. Uma lights up one (unfiltered) cigarette; about an hour and twenty minutes in.
