Movies
A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy
smokingsides
All have good exhales in a long shot standing in a meadow. Hagerty smokes twice more, in a nurse's uniform. All three look very IRL.
Cross Creek
smokingsides
She portrays the author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings in the process of writing 'The Yearling'. Rawlings lives alone in a cottage writing, drinking, and smoking. Great scenes!!
Dead of Winter
smokingsides
smokes very nicely... She's got to smoke IRL, she inhales deep and holds it, even a nose exhale. This movie needs to be on your list.
End of the Line
smokingsides
She only had 2 or 3 scenes and most of that was holding. In short, not really a good smoking film
Honeydripper
smokingsides
Smokes in one scene
Pontiac Moon
smokingsides
Steenburgen dangles a Camel while looking for a lighter on the car's panel, then lights in a closeup scene... She also buys a 10-pack in a road station. Then she meets Moriarty and both smoke together at a Cafe. Moriarty has a solo at a night bar.
The Butcher's Wife
smokingsides
She has one or two drags in a scene.
The Grass Harp
smokingsides
Piper Laurie and Nell Carter: Very poor quality because this is the character's first cigarette. Mary Steenburgen:One inhale and two good exhales.
The Help
smokingsides
Pretty much all of the women smoke in this movie. Multiple scenes throughout. Emma Stone has several holding scenes and eventually has inhales and exhales towards the last third of the movie. It's a period piece, so all the women smoke and do it elegantly. Definitely worth watching!
What's Eating Gilbert Grape
smokingsides
[Steenburgen] one short scene
Wish You Were Dead

Mary plays the mother and Tanya the daughter and both smoke frequently. but it's treated too comically (they're sort of over the top trailer trash types). Even when Mary smokes during sex, the tone may be too goofy for many to find it sensual. For those who do enjoy this approach, there are a couple of light-ups, a fair number of inhales and a few exhales - a little more overall by Mary than by Tanya. Lovely paid assassin Elaine Hendrix doesn't smoke at all.
