Playing a jaded, lonely 30-something housewife in 1967, Landecker smokes several times in this fascinating Coen Brothers film. In one scene, she's smoking outdoors in a wide shot, completely naked, and takes what looks like a snap inhale, but the editor cuts before she exhales. In two or three other scenes, she smokes cigarettes and a joint before, during, and after sex. One scene, which is a dream of the main character, includes a very powerful if brief shot in which she is on top of him during sex, leans forward in a close-up and exhales a thick cloud of smoke into his face.
