Movies
In Which We Serve

Wish I'd been paying more attention since I think there were a couple of other scenes too, but there was one scene in which Celia Johnson is smoking at a small Christmas dinner gathering about half way through the movie, nice inhale and exhale on what looks like a filterless cigarette. Another woman was smoking and sat next to her. On a train, Kay Walsh accepts a navy cut cigarette from her to be husband and lights it. |
The Astonished Heart

Johnson takes a cigarette from a cigarette box and lights it with a match without inhaling. She also takes two drags later on - one with a nasal exhale. Leighton takes a cigarette from her cigarette case and accepts a light. She holds in a second scene at a party. She accepts a cigarette and a light during the interval at a play, but the director cuts away as she takes a second drag. In another scene she asks for a light. Finally, in a romantic silhouette scene, her lover puts a lit cigarette between her lips: she drags and then removes it to kiss him. |
