This movie needed to have been made 10 years earlier, when the two lead actresses would have smoked their way through it and its dive-bar settings. But in 2004 in LA you can't smoke in bars, so we're left with little. Hands ducks outside for a cig in an early scene, takes a couple of drags, and is just lighting her second off her first when the guy she's about to get involved with appears and lectures her about the evils of smoking - the fact that he's a hard-drug user is meant to be ironic, I guess. Anyway, she more or less quits on the spot, although she relapses in a couple of later scenes, and also smokes a lot of pot (and one shared cigarette) with Marshall.
