Biography (TMDB): Gloria Grahame (November 28, 1923 – October 5, 1981) was an American actress. Grahame began her acting career in theatre, and in 1944 she made her first film for MGM. Despite a featured role in It's a Wonderful Life (1946), MGM did not believe she had the potential for major success, and sold her contract to RKO Studios. Often cast in film noir projects, Grahame received a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Crossfire (1947), and she won this award for her work in The Bad and the Beautiful (1952). She achieved her highest profile with Sudden Fear (1952), Human Desire (1953),The Big Heat (1953), and Oklahoma! (1955), but her film career began to wane soon afterwards. She returned to work on the stage, but continued to appear in films and television productions, usually in supporting roles. Diagnosed with stomach cancer in 1980, Grahame refused to accept the diagnosis and travelled to England to work in a play. Her health rapidly failed and she returned to New York City, where she died in 1981. Movies
Crossfire
smokingsides
A young Grahame dangles an unlit cigarette and then lights up. A brief segment shot in middle distance, but attractive.
Human Desire
smokingsides
Receives two light ups with match, from Glenn Ford at :34 and :47. First from front, second from back.
In a Lonely Place
smokingsides
Shown smoking in 3 scenes - Only one (in the bar) shows a nice lightup/exhale sequence
Macao
smokingsides
Two glimpses holding, followed later by two drags and very visible exhales (but in long shot) before she flicks the butt into the water.
Not as a Stranger
smokingsides
Three scenes - two smoking and the third just holding. Final scene has nice close-up
Roughshod
smokingsides
Receives at least two match light ups in the film from Sterling. I remember one of the other actresses smokes as well, possibly Martha Hyer.
Song of the Thin Man
smokingsides
[Grahame] Holds as she sings
The Big Heat
smokingsides
Gloria Grahme does NOT smoke in this movie. Jocelyn Brando has one brief scene where she takes her husband's cigarette and takes one super quick drag. However brief the drag, she appears to inhale directly from the non-filtered cigarette rather than opening her mouth afterwards. Unfortunately, as her drag was so short, her exhale isn't visible.
The Loners
smokingsides
Near the beginning, there's a brief but tantalizing shot of Patricia dangling while topless. She also dangles a joint in another scene, with an implied (but not shown) exhale. Other than that, she holds the joint. Gloria holds a cigarette in one scene, and later uses the butt to light a roach that she filches from Pat's ashtray. Overall, not very much to see in this flick.
The Man Who Never Was

just holding
