Biography (TMDB): Greta Garbo (born Greta Lovisa Gustafsson; 18 September 1905 – 15 April 1990) was a Swedish-American actress. Regarded as one of the greatest screen actresses, she was known for her melancholic, somber persona, her film portrayals of tragic characters, and her subtle and understated performances. For most of her career, she was the highest-paid actor or actress at MGM, making her for many years its "premier prestige star." Garbo was nominated three times for the Academy Award for Best Actress and in 1954, she was awarded an Academy Honorary Award "for her luminous and unforgettable screen performances". In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked Garbo fifth on its list of the greatest female stars of classic Hollywood cinema.

Movies
A Woman of Affairs
smokingsides
Three Scenes; leaning on a tree, one lighting/inhale/exhale(thick), and one close-up in trench-coat.
As You Desire Me
smokingsides
Four scenes with four lightings. She inhales on only one occasion and even then only just. There is a nice scene, though, where she lights her cigarette from that of her boyfriend as he drags and, as he removes it, she immediately kisses him on the lips, dropping her cigarette in the process.
Flesh and the Devil
smokingsides
doesn't really smoke, but there is a scene where she extinguishes the cigarette which is [given her] by her lover and then they kiss passionately.
Inspiration
smokingsides
Three scenes, pretty good although not the most visible exhales. But the second scene I thought was quite special anyway, as she picks up a cigarette while standing near a guy in a club, pointedly doesn't light it in order to get him to engage her, then after he fumblingly offers a light she confidently seduces him, with no more than 90 seconds passing between her first words and "Shall we go?," and I'm here to tell you her sexual hunger in that scene just burns up the screen. Easy to see why she's such a legend.
Mata Hari
smokingsides
Garbo smokes throughtout the movie. There were few scenes in which she was not smoking
smokingsides
[Kristel] Very torid scenes, one in particula smoking an all-white totally naked.
Ninotchka
smokingsides
Wholly uninspiring smoking here (one drag, a couple of holding scenes), but the movie is one of the great romantic comedies ever.
Susan Lenox (Her Fall and Rise)
smokingsides
A couple of holding scenes
The Painted Veil
smokingsides
Nice dangle, match light-up, and drag
smokingsides
There is a split-second glimpse of a Chinese woman sitting with a cigarette on a holder. Hardly worth mentioning.
Two-Faced Woman
smokingsides
The two women smoke in several scenes. Garbo is lit by her lover and, as he is about to light his own, she insists "Take your light from me". Their mouthed cigarettes meet as he does so.
