| Biography (TMDB): | Maggie Cheung Man yuk (born 20 September 1964) is a Hong Kong actress. Raised in England and Hong Kong, she has over 70 films to her credit since starting her career in 1983. Some of her most commercially successful work was in the action genre, but Cheung once said in an interview that of all the work she has done, the films that really meant something to her are Song of the Exile, Center Stage, Comrades: Almost a Love Story and In the Mood for Love. As Emily Wang in Clean, her last starring role to date, she became the first Asian actress to win a prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Cheung's native language is Cantonese, but she is multilingual, having learned to speak English, Mandarin and French. |

Carina Lau drags 3 times on her cigarette at the beginning of the movie. Faye Wong is seen dragging in a few scenes, in a very sensual way. Too bad we can't really see the smoke coming out of her mouth. The stunning Zang Ziyi smokes in a couple of scene but it's kinda disappointing: she holds briefly in one scene and takes 2 drags outside on a rooftop in another one but it's shot from afar. At least the drags seem quite long. Maggie Cheung is only seen with a cigarette dangling from her lips in the last part of the movie. |

takes only one puff, a quick one near the end of the film, as she acquires a multiple personality, which is literally ten minutes before she murders her husband she no longer recognizes. The puff is hardly noticable. Maggie has had several better smoking films than this one. |

In one scene in a parking deck, Cheung takes about 5 drags, with some of the drags coming as she has not yet completed nose exhales. Obviously IRL. Haines has one drag and partially visible exhale. Dalle lights up, snaps and exhales in one scene, and then lights up again while driving a car. |

Perhaps her best smoking film and one of her early ones. Lots of dangling, light-ups, inhales and close to a dozen exhales as she plays a beautiful tough prostitute. Although it's often not always filmed or lit that well, it's quite a performance. She smokes constantly and unapologetically (clearly IRL) and, in a couple of scenes at least, she uses her smoking as part of her dominant sensuality (ordering a man to light her cigarette, striking a tough pose in sunglasses as she exhales then dangles, etc). Along similar lines, towards the last quarter of the film, her character becomes more vulnerable and less dominant, and, not surprisingly, she doesn't smoke anymore. |

looks stunning dressed in all black. She smokes in a few scenes, towards the end of the picture. She has style, she has class, and she inhales, not as deeply as I've seen in other films, but she still looks great. One of her first films. |

Playing one of a number of prostitutes/young women in trouble, Maggie Cheung, in an early scene, accepts a light and inhales and exhales with her usual aplomb. Unfortunately the bright light behind her makes it hard to see her exhale, and she doesn't seem to smoke after that, unless I missed it. At least four other actresses do smoke, with varying degrees of ability, but only fleetingly, since the smoking isn't meant to be seductive, nor is it filmed particularly well. |

This is the same movie also listed as The Actress, but I rented it as Center Stage. Maggie plays a 1930s actress and smokes in two scenes a little over an hour into the film. In the first, she plays with an unlit cigarette and later has 3 drags/exhales, and in the second she gets a light and exhales. She inhales deeply, and all the exhales are glamorous, long, ultra-thick (from unfiltered cigs), and perfectly lit, with one directly into a guy's face. |
