| Biography (TMDB): | Francesca Annis (born 14 May 1945) is an English actress. She is known for television roles in Reckless (1998), Wives and Daughters (1999), Deceit (2000) and Cranford (2007). A six-time BAFTA TV Award nominee, she won the 1979 BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress for the ITV serial Lillie. Her film appearances include Krull (1983), Dune (1984), The Debt Collector (1999) and The Libertine (2004). In an agitated state, Francesca drags frantically, wreathing herself in smoke in a sequence in which she takes 10 drags in just 2 minutes 18 seconds. In this, and two other scenes, she 'inhales' with a hiss, but this seems to be an attempt to convince us that she is sucking it right down, whereas the reality is that she has already blown away most of the smoke before inhaling. Sarah smokes weed in one scene. |

Spearitt dangles, drags, and then talk-exhales against a dark background. Walker exits a hotel, selects a cigarette from her cigarette case, accepts a light from the doorman, and then perfoms a talk-and-natural exhale. Annis raises her holder to drag, but the director cuts away. |

The film is only about 80 minutes long, but I counted at least 18 smoking scenes! Francesca, though "dying for a cigarette" is unconvincing, accepting a light, but taking no further drags. Rosemary smokes (but does not inhale) in three scenes, and plays with a pack of cigarettes in a fourth. She looks good, though, when she pulls a cigarette from her pack with her lips and it waggles while she talks. Suzanna looks an IRL, lighting with a slow two-part nasal exhale. Anneke looks good too, with three deep drags with late exhales in one scene and drawing on a dog-end in another. Carol lights with a nasal-and-talk exhale. Colleen holds in one scene and is just about to light up in another. |
